Each month the Fulton County Board of Education schedules several public meetings to discuss educational issues and act on items requiring Board approval. Workshops give the Board and public an opportunity to focus in-depth on topics of interest. The work session serves primarily to present information about agenda items requiring Board approval. The Board meeting then is held the following week for the items to be approved.

All School Board meetings can be watched live from a computer screen through videostreaming technology used by the Fulton County School System. Viewers must have special viewing software, such as Windows Media Player or RealPlayer, loaded on their computer to view live meetings or archived files.

All meetings are advertised in advance and publicized through local media and the school system web site. They are open to the public unless designated as Executive Session, where the School Board must convene in private to discuss land, legal, and/or personnel items.

Local School Council (LSC)

A school council is a local school advisory body comprised of the school principal, two teachers, two parents (or guardians), and two members of the business community. It provides advice and recommendations to the principal and the local board of education regarding a variety of issues, such as student achievement goals, curriculum and instruction, school and community communications, and local school board policies.

Shakerag's LSC is part of a three-tier council structure which includes the Shakerag LSC, Northview Cluster Advisory Council, Superintendent's Advisory Council.

Northview Cluster Advisory Council

Shakerag Elementary is in the Northview Cluster.  Other schools in this cluster include Findley Oaks Elementary, Medlock Bridge Elementary, Wilson Creek Elementary, River Trail Middle School, and Northview High School.

Superintendent's Advisory Council Minutes

The Superintendent's Advisory Council (SAC) is intended to be the key community advisory group to the Superintendent, to provide advice to the Superintendent on student achievement and closing the achievement gap.

The SAC exists to:

bullet

Advise the Superintendent on system-level matters

bullet

Receive information on proposed changes in administrative procedures, instructional programs and processes, and other concerns that may be raised by the Superintendent

bullet

Share best practices from cluster Advisory Councils and schools.

Council members are encouraged to:

bullet

Act as a catalyst for involving all citizens in the school system.

bullet

Bring to the Superintendent system wide concerns or emerging issues, and

bullet

Assist in effective two-way communication across all levels of the system.

The SAC consists of the Cluster Advisory Council Chairperson from each high school cluster and the President of each of the PTA councils.

For the 2004-05 school year, there are 14 members of the SAC, including 12 Cluster Advisory Council Chairpersons and 2 PTA Council Presidents.
